Jaliyah Bostick: CROWN ACT

Hi, my name is Jaliyah and my story begins with.  Where my relationship with my natural hair has been a journey of learning, and embracing everything that makes me. Growing up, I didn’t always know how to feel about my curls. Sometimes I loved them, and other times I felt pressured to change them. But as I got older, I realized that my natural hair is one of the most important parts of my identity.

What my natural hair means to me is strength, culture, and creativity. My curls connect me to who I am and where I come from.  Embracing my natural hair helped me embrace myself. It boosted my confidence, improved the way I speak about myself, and taught me to love what makes me different. They remind me every day that I don’t have to change myself to fit in.

This matters because my natural hair has helped build my confidence. It taught me patience, and love for my identity. Every curl tells a story about confidence and beauty that doesn’t need anyone’s approval.

What I want people to know is that natural hair is not just hair,it’s history, art, and power. Every student deserves to show up as themselves without fear or judgment.
